Job Description

PARALEGAL, ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, OR SECURITIES INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL WANTED FOR SMALL LAW FIRM’S SECURITIES LAW PRACTICE

We are an Austin based law firm looking for a unique individual that wants to work in the securities litigation and arbitration field and bring their prior experience as a paralegal, attorney, or experience in the securities or investment advisory industry to a flexible and rewarding law practice.

Former Stock brokerage or investment adviser experience preferred.

Our Firm is engaged in wide variety of securities industry related cases, including representing investors in securities fraud arbitration and litigation cases, and also representing stockbrokers and investment advisers in employment and regulatory matters. We are looking for a talented and driven individual to analyze cases, work closely with clients, and to participate with and support attorneys in the case work-up through final trial.

Unique Opportunity for experienced Paralegal.

For a paralegal wanting to escape the stress and demands of a large firm or heavy litigation practice, this job offers a unique opportunity to leverage your legal skills into a specific area of the law and focus on the securities industry, including working closely with the clients and with attorneys as a claims analyst, paralegal, and as “second chair” in all litigation, arbitration and/or mediations.

Possible Growth Opportunity for Associate Attorney with Relevant Experience

Our practice is focused on the securities industry, and for the right attorney that wants more of a rifle shot practice versus a more stressful and broad based big law firm practice, while serving the aggrieved investor or the transitioning financial professional, this may be an ideal opportunity offering the right compensation, satisfaction, and flexibility.

Ideal Candidate:

Ideal candidate will have substantial experience in the brokerage/investment advisory industry as either a stockbroker, investment adviser, sales assistant and/or experience in back office, operations, in-house counsel, or compliance with a desire to leverage those skills and expertise in the legal field. Alternatively, an ideal candidate would be a litigation associate or paralegal with experience in the securities or financial services industry.

Unique opportunity to move from the securities industry to the legal industry, or to focus your skills in the legal industry in a practice dedicated to the securities industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining all schedules and deadlines, including docket control of litigation and arbitration cases
  • Interviewing prospective clients to determine whether a case has merit and whether our firm can successfully serve the client
  • Investigation and profiling of all parties/witnesses in prospective and active cases
  • Prepare profit and loss, trading, and other quantitative analyses of brokerage and fee based advisory accounts
  • Sort, organize, analyze and manage voluminous documents received through discovery in litigation and arbitration cases to find and use the key evidence
  • Serve as direct liaison to clients, opposing counsel, regulators, experts, and arbitration/judicial forums
  • Prepare initial drafts of litigation/arbitration pleadings and motions
  • E-filing for Texas Courts
  • Prepare for and attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations and trials

Qualifications:

  • College Degree, or exceptionally compelling experience
  • Meaningful experience in the securities and/or legal industry required
  • Prior experience working at a broker dealer, investment adviser, or securities regulator preferred
  • FINRA/SEC registrations preferred
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, compassionate with clients, analytical with numbers and data, and have an ability to write and communicate well.
  • Must have knowledge of stock/bond markets, investment products, insurance and annuity products, private offerings, investment account statements, and brokerage and investment advisory industry.
  • Prior experience in legal industry is a plus; if none, training will be provided.
  • Experience with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), PDF programs (i.e., Adobe, Nitro), and various investment quotation and research sites.

Reasons to Work Here:

  • This opportunity will be a great fit for someone that sincerely wants to help those that have been mistreated by the financial industry as either investors or financial professionals, and to help those clients successfully navigate the rather complex world of securities arbitration, litigation, and regulation.
  • You will be deeply involved in the representation of all clients.
  • Compensation fixed and variable
  • Flexible schedule possible
  • Paid vacations
  • Full time, or part time as independent contractor leading to full time
  • Work remotely and in Austin office, as workload requires
  • Cross-training: we will train and educate the securities industry candidate to excel in the legal industry as a paralegal/litigation assistant. We will educate the associate attorney or paralegal professional about the securities industry, investment products, brokerage regulations, and litigation and arbitration in the field
